Gewurztraminer Linsenberg 2018 AOC Alsace
♦ Intensely floral and rich ♦

The "Linsenberg" is a special place in Wihr-au-Val, which means "Lentil Mountain". Long ago, before the arrival of the potato, lentils were commonly eaten as a main course and were an excellent "head of crop" after the uprooting of a vine. Indeed, like any legume that captures nitrogen from the air, it allowed the soil to be re-enriched before the vines were replanted. Here the stony soil heats up quickly in spring. Although mainly devoted to the cultivation of Riesling, the more clayey part gives a beautiful Gewurztraminer of character.

Tasting notes

  • Straw-yellow colour with golden reflections.
  • Expressive nose, very open, with intense floral notes (roses, elderflowers) developing towards subtle nuances of spices.
  • On the palate, the wine is round and powerful, with very intense and persistent aromas of roses, lychees, spices and honey.

Food and wine pairing

Delicious as an aperitif, with foie gras or exotic and fragrant dishes (monkfish with saffron or curry), spicy dishes (Thai or Indian cuisine) salty-sweet (duck with orange), washed-rind cheeses (Munster, Pont l'Evêque, Maroilles, Livarot, Epoisses) and fruit-based desserts (quetsch tart, apple strudel, crumble, etc...).
